As some of you may already know, I have been busy working on a project of my own. It’s a First World War game that can be played with a standard Memoir ‘44 set. It’s called Dire Heroes – Gas Attack at Ypres. For those not familiar with the 2nd Battle of Ypres, here is where the first effective gas attack was launched in modern warfare. The game opens with the gas attack. From there players try to force the capitulation of their opponent through a Military or Morale Victory.
The game is now in production and I hope to offer it up soon. In the meantime, check out the Dire Heroes dice sheet that you can use to make your own set of dice (I’m looking into a source for indented dice, will keep you info’d). Of course, feel free to download my Memoir ‘44 dice making tutorial to see what I am talking about.
I knew a simple soldier boy
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
No one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you’ll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Campaign Book Score SheetsSunday, March 8th, 2009
Quick Update (March 11) – The file is now also available at BoardGameGeek.com for those who are on there. You can find it here – Flanking Caen Score Sheet
While I’m sure that Days of Wonder will be posting the individual campaign score sheets for download, I thought some of you fans might get some use out of the prototype score sheets I designed while playtesting the campaigns.
You can download it from my User Page on the Memoir ‘44 website or, hopefully, you will be able to get it from BoardGameGeek.com (see the Memoir ‘44 Campaign Book – Volume I entry).
Rememberance DayTuesday, November 11th, 2008
Hi Volks…some of you may have noted a lack of posts on here lately. That’s because I was away on vacation enjoying beautiful Vancouver Island! We had some really nice weather here and I took full advantage of it. And now I am back into the swing of things…well…mostly.
We’ve finished playing Days of the Fox (great expansion!) and are looking for some new scenarios. Might be time to try out some more of the player made ones at FFG. At least until the Mediterranean expansion comes out for Memoir ‘44.
I was also in for a pleasant surprise when I came home to find that my next order of Pendrakens came in. Again, Dave was a pleasure to deal with and despite having a number of larger orders to fill, got mine to me in a very timely fashion. They look great and I can’t wait to paint them up and share some of the photos.
